JOB DESCRIPTION: STC Entry Level SIG Manager The STC WVC Entry Level Special Interest Group is a one-day workshop held once or twice each year (depending on the level of interest), intended to give prospective technical communicators an overview of the professions. The information is delivered by several local experts and a PowerPoint presentation and workbook have already been developed to streamline the workshop. The role of manager of the STC WVC Entry Level SIG involves the following: o. Choosing a convenient date (usually a Saturday in the Spring and/or Fall) for the workshop. o. Writing an announcement and working with the STC WVC Publicity manager to publicize the upcoming event. o. Finding local "experts" to speak and providing a canned PowerPoint presentation for them to review and update prior to the event. o. Contacting local technical communications training providers for flyers on their upcoming pertinent training for back-of-the-room availability. o. Updating and making copies of the workshop workbook, agenda and handouts. o. Arranging for a location and catering for the event (usually held at the Greenwood Inn; morning/afternoon snacks and lunch are provided; a bill is sent directly to the STC WVC Treasurer from the Greenwood to pay for the facilities and catering). o. Working with the volunteers to get the Web site updated. o. Arranging for the use of a laptop computer for the day of the workshop. o. Reminding registrants of the workshop a few days prior to the workshop. o. Printing a list of attendees and providing name tags for the registration table. o. Introducing the speakers the day of the workshop and keeping it on track. o. Sending funds from the workshop to the STC WVC Treasurer following the workshop.
