Admin Council Minutes Sept. 27, 2001 Present: Patti Loverink, Ken and Vicki Miller, Rachel Houghton, Jeff Jansen, Barry Shulak, Kate O'Neill, Kymm Nelsen, Phyllis Thompson, Christy Graunke, Robin Schuckmann, and Kate Evans * The August minutes were approved. * We discussed Christy's student portfolio competition idea. Christy will talk to Jean Richardson about tying it in with the mentoring program. The focus will be on reviewing, not judging the portfolios. We'll probably publicize it in the Fall and publish it in the Spring. We need to develop portfolio guidelines. Perhaps a limit of five pieces? We discussed whether the students would present their portfolios in an interview. We probably will not require an entry fee. Our focus would probably be on PCC and PSU. Should this be limited to enrolled students in particular degree programs? * Jeff Jansen reported we received our $14,277 from STC National, and we have approximately $20,000 in the bank. We discussed possible ways to distribute our extra $5,000, such as lowering event fees. We will review the budget and discuss this again at our next Council meeting. We also will check into grants from National. * Rachel has received two entries for the competition and also has found out answers to our PR and newsletter questions regarding the chapter achievement award. * Robin stated the deadline for the next newsletter will be Oct. 15 and publication will be about Nov. 15th. The topic is translation, localization and internationalization. Ken will add a link to the newsletter on the Web site. We also discussed having Ken get rid of the clunky password protection. * The Council again applauded Dave Grassmannn for helping the chapter acquire an In Focus projector. If you need it, contact Patti. * We will be hearing from Peggy Knapp about a $750 student scholarship. * Kathy Kuvinka is our Volunteer of the Month for her hard work on the membership directory. * Patti will take care of the letterhead order. * The membership directory CD will be mailed. * Our next Admin Council meeting is Oct. 25th at 6:15 at Ace Communications.
