Adminstrative Council Minutes 4/26/2001 Present: Phyllis Thompson, Robin Schuckmann, Rachel Houghton, Patti Loverink, Debbie Layton, Jeff Harris, Christine Champeaux, Christy Graunke, Barry Shulak, Kate Evans * The March minutes were approved. * Rose Hill reports that 22 of 153 members have responded to the survey, a 14% return. * Debbie Layton, Archivist, has interviewed Joel Ramey and will speak to Candis Condo. * Patti shared thoughts she and Kymm have about program meetings for next year. Do we want to do a translation and localization round table this summer? Resumes, portfolios, and interviews are a popular topic. A meeting on interviewing SMEs would also be popular. We might ask Jean Richardson about a conflict management meeting; someone further suggested mediating cross cultural conflict. (Janet Marie Bennett at PSU is a contact for PSU's Center for Cross Cultural Studies.) Shall we see if Bill Horton is available? He was here about eight years ago. Robin suggested getting more visual communicators involved; some do not see themselves as technical communicators. * A question was raised: what would be involved is getting a student chapter going? * Rachel said eight members are going to the Chicago conference. * Robin reports that the next Galley e-zine deadline is June 15th. We congratulated Robin on the latest editing issue and discussed possible newsletter topics: training/ continuing education opportunities, career development, ergonomics in home offices, a book column (talk to Garret and Jean Richardson), designing online, lone writers, and the technical writer as tester/ technical support. * Barry Shulak has volunteered to update our membership directory. Issue: printed (at a $1,200 cost w/o mailing) or online? We will revisit this issue after receiving survey results. Rose is coding the zoomerang. * Christy will send out publicity once a week. * Phyllis reports we have 17 members signed up for the senior member breakfast. * Jeff Harris updated us on the Web page status. The admin files are not on the site any more; they will be burned on a CD by Christine and Debbie. The site is now 1.7 kilobytes. * Christine and Rachel will prepare a new competition handbook.
