July Admin meeting 

Attending: Phyllis Thompson, Patti Loverink, Kymm Nelsen, Mark Ace, Jon 
Harvey, Jeff Jansen, Jeffery Harris, John Marsicek, Christine Champeaux, 
Liza Bauman, Jim Slaight, Julie Tammivaara, Karen Belinne, Christy 
Graunke. 

Treasurer's preliminary report: 
· lost approximately $4,000 over the last fiscal year 
· current balance is approximately  $4,500 
· eminent payments over $1,350; may still have $1,200 in competition 
expenses to be reimbursed 

SIG reports: 
· June Online SIG meeting lower attendance than expected 
· no other reports this month 

Competition report: 
· Christine is putting together a letter for senior members (including a 
judging application) to be mailed by middle of August; will be due back 
by September 18th 
· call for entries will be prepared soon 
· looking for Jon Lee (and possibly others) to create WVC certificate 

Regional (2001) conference report: 
· narrowed list of possible hotels to four: Double Tree (Lloyd Center), 
Holiday Inn, Hilton, and Mariott; small committee will meet over next 
few weeks to narrow down further 
· finance, publicity, and overall coordination positions still to be 
filled 
· need logo, theme, and involvement from representatives of each Region 
7 chapter 

Volunteer report: 
· Jim Slaight has volunteered to be the volunteer coordinator! 
· ideas for promoting volunteerism include writing a Galley article, 
"spotlighting" volunteers on the web site, issuing a call for volunteers 
at every program meeting, and having STC members volunteer in community 
service activities outside STC 
· looking for ideas on how to poll senior members 
· top positions to be filled include Galley Editor, Lone Writer SIG 
manager, Web Assistant, Mentoring Coordinator 

Web manager report (summary): 
· updated bios and open position information 
· added leadership roster to the Admin page 
· still need to replace footer information with new web manager's 
contact information 
· investigating eliminating dual site maintenance (.shmtl and .htm 
files) 
· searching for new web assistant 

Membership report: 
· current count = 551 (including lapsed members) or 437 (excluding 
lapsed members) 
· lapsed members will be removed from the list in another month or so 
· Jeff Jansen is retrieving mail from the WVC PO box 

Survey report: 
· program meeting survey received about 100 responses 
· most members open to increased rates; most non-members are not 
· still considering increasing rates by $5 for all members 
· Merant gave $500 to sponsor a program meeting! 
· report on program meeting attendance (separate handout) 

Leadership Workshop report: 
· Kymm Nelsen and Liza Bauman attended Leadership Workshop in Seattle on 
July 15 with 
Region 7 and 8 Director-Sponsors 
· handouts included STC organization chart, timetable with deadlines for 
competitions etc., the STC strategic plan, summary of STC resources, 
information on loans and grants, and a transition task list from the 
Rocky Mountain chapter 
· the chapter achievement awards have been restructured to included 
Distinguished, Excellence, and Merit awards for each chapter level 
· ideas include: 
-  creating a volunteer position for a grant writer, researcher, or 
committee 
- having an archivist or historian to help make transitions smoother 
- having an anniversary party for the chapter or a breakfast for senior 
members 

Next program meeting: 
· September, at Timberline Software, topic: Macromedia Flash and 
Dreamweaver 
· have Macromedia Flash and Dreamweaver as potential raffle items 
· Networking table will no longer be announced
