October 26th STC Admin. Council Minutes Present: Phyllis Thompson, Liza Bauman, Mark Ace, Jeffrey Harris, Christy Graunke, Rachel Houghton, Jeff Jansen, Christine and Katie Champeaux, Kate Evans The September minutes were approved. * Jeff Jansen reported our current balance is $1,408.23. We still have not received our ~$13,000 from National. He also discussed various credit card options, information and quotes provided by U.S. Bank. The prices seemed high, and Mark and Jeffrey Harris brought up some alternative possibilities. Another option is to require checks in advance for big events (banquets and seminars). * SIG and Committee reports: Kymm read the following reports: * Ryan--Online SIG--There was no monthly meeting. * Rose Hill--ELSIG--We did not have enough students for the Sept. workshop; it has been rescheduled to March 10th. * Robin Schuckmann--Newsletter--The first new Galley will be out around Thanksgiving. * Kymm also reported that the Joanne Hackos April conference will cost $590 for STC members and $650 for nonmembers. Andrea Ames will be coming in February. * Jeffrey Harris, our new Webmaster, discussed the STCWVC site changes proposed by Yvonne Earnshaw, our Web site assistant. Currently our Web site is divided into two separate sites, one using .shtml for users who have Java Script-enabled browsers, the other using .htm files for users with lower-end browsers. The proposed change is to have one site using .htm files. The menu will consist of the higher-level headings only, and each high-level page will contain links to second-level headings. In six months we may be cut off from the National site and need to find a new server. Jeffrey will do some price checking on this. We also discussed whether to put the Winwriters Conference on our Web site as a matter of community interest. * Christine reported that we have 45 entries and 25 judges. This year we only accepted entries from Region 7. * Christine and Jeffrey discussed their proposal for season tickets for program meetings. After long discussion we decided to table the idea at this time. * Mark Ace gave us a Region 7 Conference update. The hotel conference fees will be very high; we need to locate sponsorships from local firms. Liza will help with the Conference Web site. Phyllis talked about a grant or scholarship in Margot's name. Her family has suggested a donation to Dove Lewis; we also talked about money for a needy student. Miscellaneous: Debbie Layton will be the archivist. We need to update our ad in the Oregon High Tech Resource Guide. Kymm Nelsen will see about the exhibit of international winners. 30
