STC Admin Council Minutes Oct. 28, 1999 Present: Mark Ace, Margot Beutler, Robin Hilp, Phyllis Thompson, Patti Loverink, Skip Martin, Kate Evans 1. The minutes were approved. 2. Our accounts have been trasferred to Quickbooks. 3. Reports We spoke of the need to find more authors and researchers for the e-zine. Mark also suggested updating our chapter logo. We voted to have Suzanne Beutler redesign the logo, using type treatment around WVC, providing two to three comps in a high resolution Photoshop file. Later we may also look at the e-zine masthead. Ginny Redish will be here Sat., March 11 and Monday, March 13th. The 13th will be a combined Program and online meeting. We'll work hard on publicity--Tech NW etc.. Robin recommended setting up a cross connection with the Am. Soc. of Indexers. Mark will pursue this. Jim Klein would like to do a program meeting on online help. Lone Writer SIG report: The Lone Writer SIG met for the second time on Oct. 13th, and four people showed up. The topic was time management. The regional conference started the next day, and many of the SIG members were making final preparations for being away from the office for several days. The next meeting is Nov. 10th, and the topic is editing your own work. Local member Liza Bauman has volunteered to work on the Lone Writer SIG website and newsletter, the Solitary Scrivener. Contractors' SIG report: Tuesday, Oct. 19th, the Contractor's SIG met. David Brown of Brown Inc. demonstrated his HTML indexer. Frank Stearns of Frank Stearns Assocates demonstrated his indexer for Framemaker. Next month's meeting will be Levels of Contracting. Skip is planning on asking contractors and various agencies to speak on a panel. Skip reported he is talking to Volt, Hall Kinion, Mark Ace and Aquent about the panel. Mark reminded us that each SIG needs to be developing a SIG resource page for the Web site. Patti reported on the Portland Creative Initiative. Portland Creative Services' goal is to acquire a building in the Pearl District, using lottery dollars. Patti is on their marketing task force and will be writing a newsletter article about the project. Other groups involved include the Oregon Multimedia Alliance, SAO, IABC, and graphic design firms. Robin reported on a regional meeting of the Indexing Society in Portland in October. Twenty-eight attended. Margot and Teri will submit our e-zine for the newsletter competition in the new e-zine category. The fee structure for program meetings will be voted on later. Our nominee for Associate Fellow was announced. We voted to charge more for STC-U classes: $50>$65; $65>$80. We need to find an assistant treasurer. We also will talk to Tom White about a newsletter article with the early results of the salary survey. Next meeting: Dec. 2. This meeting adjourned about 8 p.m..
