STC Admin Council Minutes Dec. 2, 1999 Present: Mark Ace, Robin Hilp, John Fysh, Jon Harvey, Jeffrey Harris, Rachel Houghton, Christine Champeaux, Phyllis Thompson, Patti Loverink, Teri DallaCosta, Kymm Nelsen, April Stearns, Karen Bledso, Kate Evans 1. The minutes were approved. 2. Jeff Janson will be the assistant treasurer. 3. Reports Membership--John Fysh We have 467 members. John will complete this year, but we need to recruit a successor who knows Access. Online--Robin Hilp The online SIG merged with the program meeting this month and presented a program on commercial Web site design. Indexing--Robin Hilp The January meeting will be on online indexing. A telephone conference call was discussed. Contracting--Patti for Diane Purser Skip coordinated a panel discussion of different technical writing vendors "Levels of Contracting". The SIG will not meet in December. In January William Clive will speak on tax issues for contractors. Telecommuting--Teri DallaCosta The SIG will have its second meeting next Monday; topic--doing a Web page. Newsletter--Teri DallaCosta April and Karen will be helping with the Galley. April will cover future events of STC and other groups, health issues, and recommended books. Karen will cover interesting URLs, product descriptions and Linux information. Andres, a PSU student, will be the PSU connection, and Rod Allen, a PCC student, will be the PCC connection. Teri will work on book reviews and editor's and a grammar column. Diane Castro will cover monthly meetings and the calendar. Peggy Knapp will be doing an Arizona travel column. Lone Writers SIG--Christine Champeaux The Nov. meeting was on editing your own work. In Jan. Garret will be talking about creating document plans, Feb.--working with SMEs, March--testing documentation, and April--tips and tricks. Volunteers--Christine Champeaux Christine is sending out thank you letters to volunteers. Publicity--Rachel Houghton Rachel discussed the publicity for the holiday social. In Jan. she will start publicizing Ginny Redish's workshop/lectures March 11 and 13. The next ELSIG will be in June. Lists--Jeffrey Harris We are moving from teleport to stc.org this weekend. Web--Kymm Nelsen Clyde is leaving and John Marsecek will be the new assistant. Kymm reports Clyde did a terrific job. Hospitality--Jon Harvey We had 55 attendees at our last program meeting. Only two did not RSVP. We discussed preprinted name tags and a laminated card on the table with the new fee structure. We also talked about a $2 discount voucher for program meetings for volunteers. Christine again raised the issue of how we define a volunteer. Phyllis Thompson Ginny Redish is asking if we want two totally different presentating or overlapping presentations. Mark does not think overlapping would be important. Kymm Nelsen Kymm wondered about putting our minutes on the Web. Logo Design We voted for our new logo design.
