March Admin Meeting - 03/28/2002 Attendees: Patti Loverink, Kymm Nelsen, Rachel Houghton, Jeff Jansen, Jean Richardson, Kathee Kuvinka, Robin Schuckmann, Christy Graunke, Ken Miller, Vicki Miller, Debbie Layton, Jon Harvey - Guest Bev Arnoldy gave out information about the CASE program (Creating Avenues of Success and Equity for Women and Minorities in High Tech.) at PCC. The program is looking for mentors, guest speakers, and people willing to participate in informational interviews to help students with school to work transitioning. CASE also wants us to help publicize the program--Patti suggested that we need to determine if this program is "non-profit" before the STC can endorse it. Bev is looking into the program's status, and will submit an article about it to the Willamette Galley for the next issue. - Patti read Phyllis Thompson's report that the chapter bylaws have been posted to the website for voting. Christy reported that the ballots were mailed on March 26; the deadline for voting is April 15, 2002. - Debbie Layton discussed the chapter archivist role, and will develop a plan for what we should include and how we should preserve it. Suggestions for materials included meeting topics, who has served on the admin. council, newsletter, bylaws, and award applications. Suggestions for format included hardcopy, CD, or the chapter website. - Patti gave us an update on the PSU (Rose City) student chapter. It is currently petitioning for chapter status, and is expected to be approved soon. Maralee Sautter will be our chapter liaison. - Jean Richardson spoke about the Communicators' Conference, which has been organized by the local chapters of the IABC (International Association of Business Communicators) and PRSA (Public Relations Society of America). Last year's event in October 2001 had several hundred attendees. The organizers for this year's event have had one organizational meeting so far, and expect this year's event to be considerably smaller. There is some question as to how much involvement, if any, the STC should have in planning this event (we sponsored a table last year). Jean (and possibly Kathee) will try to attend the April planning meeting and report back with further information. - SIG reports: the Marketing Communications and Online SIGs are looking for new co-managers. Mike Engel will run the Single-Sourcing SIG next year; the last meeting had 15 attendees. The next Entry-Level SIG will be held in October (there will not be one this spring). Candace Condo will run the Managers' SIG next year. - Treasurer's Report: Jeff reported that we have $6,188.18. We may receive a deposit from the Region 7 Conference proceedings in mid-April. - Rachel reported that Lance Gelein's project management workshop had 18 attendees. - Rachel brought the application for the Chapter Achievement Award for all to admire. She will submit it by April 12, 2002. - Patti reported that our new chapter logo is still waiting for approval by the international STC committee. - Kymm reported that Dave Grassmann is preparing materials for the strategic planning meeting, to be held on April 13. This will be a brainstorming session to determine where the chapter is going in the next 3-5 years. We may have additional meetings as needed. - Kymm and Patti discussed options for the end-of-year celebration, with the goal of closing the year on an uplifting, positive note. Possible speakers include ComedySportz or Karen Howells, who would be speaking on "finding your second wind." Possible locations include the Portland Art Museum, the Jenkins' Estate, the Bridgeport Brew Pub, or the Captain Ainsworth House in Oregon City. (The City Grill, discussed last month, was ruled out because of catering issues.) - The Volunteer of the Month is Phyllis Thompson, for her outstanding work on the chapter bylaws and the elections committee. - Robin reported that the next issue of the newsletter will be on education and careers, and has an article submission deadline of April 15. The issue after that will focus on management and project development, and has an article deadline of June 15.
