Call for Judges: WVC 2011-2012 Competitions
Entries for the Willamette Valley Chapter 2011-2012 Competitions will be accepted from October 3 through November 1, 2011. Judges are needed to evaluate the entries and provide the entrants with valuable feedback on their work. This call for judges is your invitation to participate in the Willamette Valley Chapter (WVC) competitions.
Who is eligible to judge?
All technical communicators are eligible to serve as competition judges. Judges do not have to be STC members. If you are new to judging, you will be assigned to a team of experienced judges.
When will the judging occur?
Judges will be asked to attend a meeting on Saturday, November 5, for one to three hours. Training will be provided and judging packets will be distributed to the judges. You will also have an opportunity to meet with your judging team. Each team consists of three judges.
If you are unable to attend this meeting, you are responsible for arranging with one of the Judging Managers—Dave Thompson or Deirdre Berry—to pick up your judging packets.
At the consensus judging meeting held on Saturday, December 3, the judging teams meet to come to a consensus regarding what award, if any, will be given to the entrant. This meeting will last one or two hours.
If you are unable to attend this meeting, you are responsible for arranging to drop off your judging packets and evaluations.
Can I be a judge if I entered the competition?
Yes. You will not be assigned to judge your own work.
How are judging assignments made?
When filling out the STC WVC Competition Judge Information Form, you are asked to indicate which competitions (Instructional, Informational, Promotional, or User Support) you wish to judge and which—if any—you are uncomfortable judging.
This allows us to assign you to the competitions you are most comfortable judging.
How are entries judged?
Each judge is asked to review and evaluate the entries using criteria established by STC. An evaluation form provided by STC is filled out by each judge. Entrants will receive a copy of each judge’s evaluation of their entries. The evaluations will need to be completed prior to the consensus judging meeting on December 3.
How do I sign up to be a judge?
Fill out and submit the STC WVC Competition Judge Information Form by Tuesday, November 1, and send it via email to the Competition Manager, competition@stcwvc.org.
