2011–2012 Competition Entry Forms

Have you or your company produced technical communication products that you think are worthy of awards? Would you like your work to be recognized by your peers? This call for entries is your invitation to participate in the Society for Technical Communication (STC) competitions.

Who is eligible?

The STC International Summit Awards are open to everyone who produces technical communication. Entrants do not have to be members of STC. You may enter work as an individual or on behalf of a colleague or subordinate.

What can be entered?

Entries must:

  • contain sufficient technical, scientific, medical, or similar content to qualify as technical communication

  • have been produced or substantially revised within 24 months preceding September 1 of the current year

  • have been originally prepared for and accepted for publication by a client, employer, or publisher.

Entries are subject to all restrictions listed in the “General Information and Competition Rules" document.

How are the competitions structured?

STC offers two levels of competition:

Local and regional competitions are the first level of competition and are sponsored by single or multiple chapters or special interest groups.

Society (international) competition is the final competition level. Only winners of the Distinguished and Excellence in Technical Communication at the local or regional level are eligible for the Society competition. Eligible entrants will be notified regarding submitting their winning entry to this level of competition.

Competition Categories

The WVC Competitions accept entries in all of the categories defined by the international STC competitions. For descriptions of these categories, see the WVC Competition Categories page.

What awards are given?

Three levels of recognition are awarded in each competition category. These awards, in descending order, are:

  • Distinguished Technical Communication (DTC)

  • Excellence

  • Merit

One Best of Show award is presented for each of competition division:

  • Informational Materials

  • Instructional Materials

  • Promotional Materials

  • User Support Materials

Preparing Your Entry

1. Complete the Annual Competition Entry Form.

2. Make five copies of your submission.

3. Make six copies of the Description of the Competition Entry form (pages 1-3 of the Annual Competition Entry Form).

4. Create one Entry Submission Packet by attaching the following items:

  • Entry Submission Form (page 4 of the Annual Competition Entry Form).

  • One copy of the Description of the Competition Entry form.

  • Check or Money Order for the competition entry fee. Please make checks payable to STCWVC.

5. Create five Judging Packets by attaching the following items:

  • One copy of the Description of the Competition Entry form

  • One copy of your submission

6. Send one Entry Submission Packet and five Judging Packets to:
