WebVisions

The Web: it's not just HTML any more. Advances in user knowledge and acceptance, together with emerging standards like CSS and XML (and technologies like Flash) are shaping the Web into an increasingly sophisticated and profound medium--and making development far more complex. At the same time, the industry continues to be shaken by business setbacks and failures. What does all this mean to artists and developers? How can you best prepare to embrace the coming Web?

Jeffrey Zeldman and a panel of experts will explore the medium's technical and creative evolution--where we've been and where we're going--offering insights to help artists, writers, developers and business people survive and thrive as they embrace an industry and a medium in flux.

Date: August 7, 2001
Location: Northwest Cultural Center
  1819 NW Everett
  Portland, OR 97209
Time: 5:30 - 9:30
Admission:   $15 for early registration / $18 at the door

Hors d'oeuvres and beverages will be served at the event.

About the Featured Speaker

Designer and author Jeffrey Zeldman www.zeldman.com is one of the most important voices on the Web today. He is that rare artist who understands the technical and aesthetic issues designers and developers must deal with in the trenches, and who also grasps (and can explain) the impact emerging technologies will have on the way we build the Web.

Zeldman is the author of TAKING YOUR TALENT TO THE WEB (New Riders: 2001); the publisher and creative director of A List Apart www.alistapart.com, a weekly magazine "For People Who Make Web sites;" co-founder and group leader of The Web Standards Project www.webstandards.org, a grassroots coalition fighting for standards on the web. He is a featured columnist for Adobe Web Center, PDN-Pix Magazine, Crain's Creativity, and Macworld, and speaks at conferences in the U.S. and Europe.
