President's
Message
A new year often opens our vision of what the future holds. The
Willamette Valley Chapter has exciting 2003 events planned for you.
-
The WVC 2002 Technical Communications Competition comes to a close with the Awards
banquet on Monday, February 17th. Christy Graunke, our Competition Manager, has
selected the Multnomah County Central Library for our location. Plan to attend
this buffet dinner and celebrate with the winners of these coveted awards.
-
Working with feedback and suggestions from our pilot SIG, the Senior Advisory
Panel, we are organizing two monthly program meetings that cover the more expert
or experienced perspective. These topics are intended to enhance your career growth
and help you see where the tools and technologies are moving. Watch for announcements
about these topics in upcoming weeks.
- In April, the Willamette Valley
Chapter will team up with the Mid-Valley Chapter to present a special program
that focuses on career development and exploration. This event will take place
in Salem and may offer additional workshops with two of our favorite presenters,
Rahel Bailie (our Region 7 Director Sponsor) and Emma Hamer. Mark this month on
your calendar, especially if you're ready to explore career options.
- WVC
has been selected to host the September 2003 STC Board Meeting. This is a great
opportunity to meet the STC Board of Directors and attend a real STC Board meeting.
Interactive programs and social events will be on the schedule, so make a note
on your calendar now. September will be very exciting!
With
this particular New Year comes a new team of editors to The Willamette Galley.
We are pleased to welcome our new Editor, Cindy Reid, and our new Assistant Editor,
Kevin Cox to our award-winning newsletter. Both Cindy and Kevin contribute regularly
to the Galley and possess a driving commitment to excellence that will serve the
chapter well.
In saying welcome to Cindy and Kevin, we must say a sad farewell
to our outgoing Editor, Robin Schuckmann. Robin stepped into the role of Editor
over a year ago. Her management and organizational expertise revitalized the Galley
during that time, garnering our chapter an Award of Excellence in the 2002 STC
Newsletter Competition. Robin continues her editorial and design efforts in her
business, Print Media. We thank her deeply for the time she contributed to the
success of our chapter.
In closing, I offer my personal wish for your success
in 2003. You are all stronger and wiser after the last two years of challenge.
Your future looks brighter every day!
With warm regards,
Kymm
