Letter from the Editor

“Keep It Simple Silly (or fill-in-the-blank)”

Whether online or off, concise communication is the crux of the technical communication world. That means crafting and delivering the right message to the right audience. But how do we actually achieve these goals? For ideas, take a look at this month’s feature articles including topics such as Researching and Defining Your Audience, Online Accessibility, User Personas, and more.

Making its debut this issue is “Take Our W-O-R-D For It.” Learn and laugh as your peers attempt to define various phrases, words and acronyms that we encounter nearly every day as technical communicators.

A number of valuable events are right around the corner. In this issue read about two April career events in Salem, and two articles about the national STC 50th Anniversary celebration.

Editorial apologies are extended to Peggy J. Heath whose column, “TechWriting by Design,” was originally slated to appear in 2002. We are sorry for any confusion this may have caused.

Next Issue

Is it a good time to look into furthering your education, changing gears, or are you hoping to just hang on to the job you have?

Our May issue’s theme is Careers & Education. How did you know a career in technical communication was for you? Are you participating in the STC Mentoring program? Do you have job search tips that are worthy of sharing with others? If you have a story to tell about your job search experiences or how your career has evolved, please share them with the STCWVC membership by submitting an article to cindycomm@attbi.com or knccomm@hotmail.com.

Article submission deadline is April 15, 2003.
