President’s MessageThis spring became a time of collaboration for WVC. Our goal to co-sponsor an event with our nearest chapter neighbor, the Mid-Valley Chapter in Eugene, was fulfilled on April 12th. The two chapters hosted a career management workshop with the talented Emma Hamer as instructor. Glowing reports from the workshop show that our efforts paid off for attendees, who found the training useful and informative. An additional shared chapter meeting, held in Salem on April 10th, featured Region 7 Director-Sponsor Rahel Baille speaking on resume preparation. With the success of these events, we will continue to look for opportunities to bring the two chapters together for support, networking and mutual growth. As we approach June, the end of the 2002–03 season, watch for an announcement about the traditional End of Year party in June. This meeting is our chance to thank the many volunteers who have given generously of their time and energy. Past parties have taken us on the Willamette for a dinner cruise, to the Zoo for an evening of music, and to Comedy Sportz for a few laughs. This year’s party is in the planning, so keep an eye on your WVC-Announce e-mails. We hope you will attend to celebrate the accomplishments of the past year. Our Administrative Council will begin its transfer of office as we near close of the season. The new Secretary, Len Humbird, and new Treasurer, Russell Pike, will be sworn into office at the End of Year party, along with a number of returning and new chapter leaders. The succession of presidential officers will occur at this time, too. Rachel Houghton will step forward as your new President and Dave Grassmann as your 1st Vice President. Their talents will serve the chapter well next year. Finally, we bid farewell to Valerie Allison, our departing Web Manager and Online SIG Manager. Valerie worked hard to provide engaging topics for the Online SIG meetings. She also kept the web site updated with meeting registrations and content. Thank you, Valerie, for your tremendous contributions. We wish you well! This issue of the Galley marks my final President’s Message. It has been my honor and pleasure to serve as your president this year. The times have been challenging and inspiring. I offer my congratulations to those of you who have conquered your fears and reached out for a new definition of yourself as an individual and as a professional. Your positive and progressive outlooks have created a new wave of change for technical communication. I salute you. With warm regards,
