Status of PCC's Technical and Professional Writing Certificate Program

As many of you may know, Portland Community College is experiencing tough times financially. Programs have either been terminated or reduced, and employees have been let go. Unfortunately, PCC's Technical and Professional Writing Certificate Program is one of the programs affected.

Three of the five classes in the program, WR 227 Technical Writing I, GD 120 Graphic Design I, and Writing 9599 Professional Editing, will continue to be offered regularly. However, the final two classes in the program, WR 9601 Graphics for Technical Writers and WR 9600 Advanced Technical Writing, will be "on hold."

We are currently hiring a new Dean of Business and Humanities at PCC Rock Creek, and I am hoping to convince her or him to reconsider the program decision and continue offering WR 9601 and 9600. In order to do this, I plan to develop a list of people who are interested in earning a Certificate and comments from people who have been involved with the program. If you would like to be added to the list or would like to express your opinion about the value of the program you can write me at PCC at P.O. Box 19000, Portland, OR 97280, e-mail me at ktevans@teleport.com, or call me at PCC at 503.614.7340. If you have any questions or suggestions about the program, please contact me.
