A Letter from the Editors
by Robin Schuckmann and Allyn Bowers Editors, the Willamette Galley
We're excited to take on this new project! We have some great ideas to make this
a successful online publication for our chapter. Our goals for the coming year are
to publish a quarterly newsletter that is filled with up-to-date, interesting
articles that relate to the technical communication field. Each issue will
have a theme, where you'll find topics such as Writing About Technology,
Technical Editing, and Print and Online Tools. You'll find regular columns
such as Agency Corner, SIG Updates, Book Reviews and Seminar Previews, Meet the
Members, and Announcements.
There's always room for your article too! Do you have an article that you'd like to
publish in the Willamette Galley newsletter? Or would you like to contribute, but
aren't sure what to write about? Volunteers are always welcome! Whether you're a
student just getting into technical communications or a senior member with lots
of experience, there are always volunteer opportunities available. Please feel
free to email Robin Schuckmann.

In 1987, I received a BS in Physics and Mathematics from Bates College.
In 1993, I received a MS in Geophysics from Boston College. When I was a geophysicist,
I spent half my time programming and writing documentation. After leaving the world of
geophysics in 1996, I became a full-time technical writer. Currently, I am a technical
writer for Intel's Networking division. Over the past two years, I have been diving into
the online scene with online WinHelp, HTML help files, XML, and HTML web pages. I'm also a Willamette
Galley Newsletter Editor for Society for Technical Communication, Willamette
Valley Chapter. I can be
reached at allyn@iccom.com.
