Each fall, the Willamette Valley Chapter of the Society for Technical Communications invites technical communicators to enter their best work in juried competitions. Entries are evaluated by experienced technical communicators who are encouraged to include suggestions for improvements in their written comments. Judges may be senior members of the chapter, educators from area colleges and universities, or senior technical communicators from the community.
The Awards Banquet showcased the award winners in the three competition categories: Online Publications, Technical Publications, and Technical Art. This year, entries were received from Oregon and Washington. Entries showcase the
"Best of the Best" from leading technology companies such as Intel, Medscape, Tektronix, Merant, Timberline and Hewlett Packard.
The top winners of our local competition qualify to enter STC's three international competitions: Technical Publications, Technical Art, and Online Communications. WVC's competition has been held each year since 1978. Out of 55 entries, 20 received an Award of Merit, 19 received an Award of Excellence, and 9 received Distinguished Technical Communication. Below you'll find a list of Willamette Valley Chapter's 2001 STC Technical Communication Competition Award Winners along with a definition of their respective award.
DISTINGUISHED
Award Definition: Clearly superior in all areas. The entry contains no major flaws and few, if any, minor flaws. It applies the principles of technical communication in an outstanding way, particularly in the way that it anticipates and fulfills the needs of its audience.
